Down the You Tube
Posted by Ian Cooper March 28th, 2007As I hardly get to read the Economist from cover to cover, RSS feeds from their site are particularly useful. I always thought the Economist was just for old boring economics lecturers but have come to appreciate the content more & more. In particular, their thoughts on Web 2.0.
Unlike Time, (which labels “You” as Person the Year) the Economist seems to have a more objective take on what is truly happening. Not bad from an old story traditional media magazine.
Anyway, the latest comments on You Tube make for interesting reading. The last paragraph in particular:
Was YouTube—and the bigger “Web 2.0” movement that it symbolised—just a brief bout of silliness, an echo of the dotcom bubble of the late 1990s? It was not. YouTube has already changed society and democracy in lasting ways, by lowering the barriers to entry for talented amateurs to reach an audience, and by providing an outlet for the creative impulse of millions.
