Latest figures from comScore show that whilst MySpace is still the clear market leader in terms of social networks in the US, when you look at the worldwide numbers, Facebook is very, very close to overtaking MySpace, in January only trailing by about 9 million unique visitors. What is significant is that Facebook has only really started their global roll out with Spanish, German and French sites launched this year. MySpace is already into China. Everyone already knew this was happening, but I think MySpace is now clearly on their way to second place.

Paris and Zuckerberg’s Personal Photos Exposed via Facebook Security Flaw
A security flaw allowed a Canadian computer technician to pull private photos from users on Facebook, even if they had been marked as restricted. An Associated Press reporter confirmed the claim and managed to get access to photos on Paris Hilton and Mark Zuckerberg’s (CEO of Facebook) accounts.

Preferred Facebook App Developer Programme in the Works
Facebook’s developer programme was much vaunted when they launched for being open to everyone. Come one and all and build your Facebook apps. The problem was that there is now a lot of junk available now, as well out and out malware and scams. How do you know if an application can be trusted, and if you are an app developer, how do you promote your new app and cut through all the noise? It seems that Facebook will son launch a preferred developer programme to take care of this. Details are sketchy but this has to be a move in the right direction.

Facebook Impersonator Pardoned
We have previously followed the story of Fouad Mourtada who was convicted to 3 years in prison for setting up a Facebook account in the name of a Moroccan Prince. He has now received a royal pardon and has been released after 43 days in prison.
